of them for BIBIC.'

John
Higgins, former World Champion and Vice President of national
children’s charity BIBIC, is calling cue sport players across
the UK to take part in this annual team fundraiser. Throughout
October and November 2006, players of all abilities are encouraged
to hold a marathon at their local snooker club, pool hall, social
club, pool hall, pub, college, university or place of work.
The winning team will receive tickets to The Masters 2007 where
they will have a backstage tour and meet John Higgins (winner
of The Masters 2006), who is currently ranked fourth in the
world. They will also win two apartments to the Pontin’s Spring
Festival of Snooker, including optional entry. Signed cues,
merchandise and subscriptions to CueSport Magazine are on offer
for other categories.
Teams
of up to eight can play continuously in full marathons for 12
hours, or half and mini marathons can be run. Events can be
tailored to best suit the teams – some may plan to have as much
fun as possible, whilst others may hold a full scale competition.
Participants can be sponsored for the number of points they
score, frames they play, matches they win, hours they endure
or for simply taking part. Also, what a great way to celebrate
the start of the league season for all you keen snooker, pool
or billiard players! The winning team is the one who raises
the most funds for BIBIC overall; however, there are also prizes
for the highest individual fundraiser and the best sports write
up and photo.

This
event was launched in 1998 when John Higgins won the Liverpool
Victoria Charity Challenge in support of BIBIC – British Institute
for Brain Injured Children. John’s prize money funded a state-of-the-art
sensory room, which continues to help many children reach their
full potential. To date, nearly £60,000 has been raised by marathon
players. For enquiries or a registration pack that contains
everything you need to run a great event, please contact the
Fundraising Team on 01278 684060 or email fundraising@bibic.org.uk
As
one of BIBIC’s major national fundraising events, this will
also be a vehicle to highlight their work to a key target audience:
predominantly males who are often fathers and grandfathers,
and younger players who could be brothers or friends of a child
who faces life with a disability. This event is also of course
open to female players! BIBIC are grateful to World Snooker,
Pontin’s and CueSport Magazine for their support.
