Forgotten cash is worth £100m
More than £100 million of foreign currency is lying around in the homes of British holidaymakers, according to new research.
The Post Office, which commissioned the research, predicts that 15 million British travellers will exchange sterling for foreign currency this year, and one in four will fail to change back their leftover cash.
Research has shown that 15% of UK travellers claim to have £50 or more of foreign currency. The main reason given is because they believe that their nearest exchange is too far or that they will use it again!
If you are one of those travellers, and you know in your heart of hearts that you really are unlikely to be able to find that currency again by the time you finally return to that country, then please help us by sending it to us now - your holiday money will be brightening up a child's life who may never be able to experience the sort of holiday you have just enjoyed.
We have a number of schools and colleges who have kindly offered to act as collection points but we desperately need more. If your child's school could help out please let us know, perhaps you could ask them on our behalf, or maybe your corner shop would be willing to help?
If you are a UK taxpayer we could also claim tax relief via the gift aid declaration (pdf) even though it's foreign currency. This could help us recoup a further 28p in the pound so please fill out this form so we can claim it back.
The address to send your foreign currency is:
BIBIC, Knowle Hall, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA7 8PJ
or telephone 01278 684060 to find out where the nearest collection point is.
