Dear generous friends, colleagues and family
I am delighted to inform you that Inlands’ intrepid Three Peaks team completed their challenge having climbed the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales being Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden, totaling over 10,000ft.
The climb totaled nearly 30 miles due to alternative routes needing to be taken and whilst the distance to travel between the three mountains was supposed to be 450 miles, having set off on our challenge on Saturday 23rd June (last weekend) having completed Ben Nevis in torrential rain and high winds, we were informed that due to freak weather conditions in Cumbria (where a month’s rain had fallen on the Friday night) the roads to Scafell Pike were closed due to severe flooding and mud slides.
With great frustration, as having being so close to the 2nd mountain having completed Ben Nevis on time, the Inland team had to drive within 25 miles of Scafell Pike and instead by-pass the mountain and travel through the night to Mount Snowden. We arrived at 3:00am last Sunday morning (again in torrential rain!) where we then set off to climb Mount Snowden. We reached the summit of in 3 hrs and attached is a photo of us taken at 6am following which we had a 2 hr descent.
Whilst the team were unable to complete the challenge within the allotted 24 hours, through no fault of our own, due to the generosity displayed by you all we felt we had to complete the challenge as set out and so my 6 colleagues and I left work on Friday afternoon and drove over 8 hrs to the Lake District where we then immediately climbed Scafell Pike (through the night so as to be at the same time as we would have climbed it originally!) and completed this climb in time of 4 hrs 30 mins.
We then jumped straight back in our cars and drove home back to the office, arriving at 7:00am yesterday morning.
Whilst our challenge was to conquer three mountains whilst normally covering some 450 miles between the three peaks, in order to fulfill our promise to yourselves and the charity, our total trip comprised a one way flight to Glasgow followed by a combined distance travelled of over 1,300 miles and 28 hours of driving!!
Thank you for all your support and extremely generous sponsorship for what is a very worthwhile cause. BIBIC cannot survive without the support and kind donations from persons such as yourselves and I am delighted to inform you that our challenge raised over £30,000 for the charity enabling them to purchase new equipment and much needed equipment and a system in delivering the very specialist services which are so important to the families that need it most.
Thank you once again for all your support – it is very much appreciated and see attached some pics of our adventure!
If you haven’t yet sponsored us there’s still time! You can visit our fundraising page at: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/inland1 any anything you are able to donate is very welcome and appreciated
